Rodrick Sparks was raised by two hardworking union parents who taught him the value of honesty, sacrifice, and standing up for others. From an early age, he learned that many families are doing their very best, often quietly and without recognition and that leadership should always respect those everyday sacrifices.
A graduate of Raytown South High School, Rodrick attended Kansas City Kansas Community College and Liberty University, building a foundation rooted in service, accountability, and community leadership. Professionally, he works in the title insurance industry, helping protect homeowners and lenders through careful, transparent work that requires trust and attention to detail.
Rodrick and his wife, Lauren, are raising their family in the Lee’s Summit R-7 community. Their eldest child is a district graduate now attending Northwest Missouri State University, while their youngest continues in the district. As a parent, Rodrick understands firsthand the hope and trust families place in their schools and the sacrifices they make to support their children.
Rodrick previously served on the Lee’s Summit R-7 Board of Education, including as Board President. One of his first actions in that role was supporting a policy change to ensure educators received credit for all of their years of service, regardless of the districts in which they previously worked, recognizing professional experience, honoring dedication, and strengthening staff retention. During his tenure, he also helped support one of the largest staff pay increases in district history, expand early childhood classrooms, and champion the creation of a student board representative policy to elevate student voice.
Beyond the school board, Rodrick has served as President of United Steelworkers Local 13-07, representing working families and advocating for fairness and respect in the workplace. He currently serves as President of the Wedgewood Pointe Property Owners Association and as a board member of Lee’s Summit Cares, continuing his commitment to collaboration, accountability, and community service.
Across every role, Rodrick is known as a steady, approachable leader who listens first, works hard, and believes strong schools and strong communities are built by putting people first.
